Wizard of Christchurch


To mark the honouring of Ian Brackenbury Channell, with the Queen's Service Medal for services to the community on the 1st of June 2009, we publish this portrait by our photographer of the renowned Wizard of Christchurch.

I can't believe how more and more farcical the Queens Birthday honours are getting.... i read and shook my head today ...

It makes a pleasant change to see an honour going to someone other than the predictable businessmen and politicians. Especially to one whose amusing ideologies and colourful personality have done much to enliven what might otherwise be considered a somewhat dreary backwater.

Since it's now 35 years since he first became our wizard, perhaps we should elect this Harry Potteresque character as Archwizard of Canterbury and Primate Arcanus of New Zealand.
