Thinking of Building on Mount Pleasant?

This is what London architects Mackay+ Partners have designed as a residence overlooking the sea at Byron Bay, Australia.(more…)

I find the design like a blank canvas -no character at all(possibly to blend into the background?).
However it appears to have a small footprint so as to not distract from the position and surrounds so it may have some things going for it lol.
The washing would dry in a hurry on any clothesline built up there! lol

IMHO this is not a house built to impress the neighbours, et al; the character is in the design's simplistic minimalism, with greater value being placed on the interior ambiance than the external appearance. That cantilevered room would be a superb place to watch the sun rise out of the Tasman Sea.

Exactly ;)

Perfect site for a motel!

I'm a bit surprised that no one has ever considered building a hotel on the Port Hills. With views from the Southern Alps to the Pacific Ocean it could prove an alluring alternative to the package-tour hostelries and motels, the best of which are strangely reminiscent of Las Vegas in the 1980s.

hush!

Have you checked the average income for Mt Pleasant? The NIMBY factor would nix such a proposal (apologies for needless alliteration).

p.s. I think you could obtain some of those 80s style Las Vegas motel strips at a knockdown price these days, should you be anxious to see more in Chch.
